About The Book

Part 1

A WAY OUT

Living in Tradistown, North Carolina, (the poorest town in the state) seventeen-year-old, Rowan Hellebore, is stuck surviving as an underpaid Third-class citizen, after her father was killed in a tragic construction collapse. That accident left her mother hysterical and unemployed, forcing Rowan and her older brother to be the family breadwinners for their younger sister.

However, after President Jonquil Garland orders the annihilation of all Third-class citizens, mere days after Rowan survives a deadly fire that engulfed her workplace, she hatches an escape plan for herself and her family (with the help of an old friend), before time runs out for the ones she loves.

As the night of the escape arrives, one misfortune disintegrates into chaos, and Rowan finds her world turned upside down as she heads into the dreadful Goldstone City to retrieve something she can’t leave North Carolina without. With help from an unlikely source, Rowan must choose carefully who to trust, and how to play the game of survival in a place that wants her dead.

“…But all I could think about was what they’d do if they found out what I was.”

– Rowan Hellebore
